Trauma Service

As the designated provider of major trauma services for adults in Western Australia, we treat approximately 80 per cent of the State’s major trauma cases.

Our Trauma Service is led by Dr Sudhakar Rao and we provide state-of-the-art multidisciplinary emergency trauma and critical care for patients suffering complex injuries.

More than 5000 trauma patients are admitted annually, with over 700 of these patients classed as major trauma.

The quality of our care has been recognised with formal Level 1 Trauma Verification from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (external site).

Our 30-bed State Major Trauma Unit facilitates the coordinated treatment of acutely injured patients requiring care from multiple medical specialties.

Our Trauma team includes Trauma Surgeons, Residents, Interns and Fellows together with nursing staff and Allied Health professionals.

As the State Major Trauma Centre, we also compile the State Trauma Registry, which collects statistical information on trauma patients. The data is used for research, to evaluate and improve patient care as well as in resource planning.
