Podiatry services were established at Royal Perth Hospital more than 50 years ago and focus on treating patients with serious foot problems, or those at high risk, and have an emphasis on wound management.
Patients suffering from diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, chronic renal disease, arthritic conditions and immuno-suppressive disorders are more likely to suffer from foot problems.
Problems can include ulceration, infection and neuropathic joint disease, all of which can lead to amputation.
We operate in a multidisciplinary environment and work closely with other areas including Endocrinology and Diabetes, Microbiology, vascular medicine, Rheumatology, Orthopaedics and amputees.
We are also responsible for the Multidisciplinary Foot Ulcer Clinic for outpatients with complicated foot ulceration.
