
Neurology
Neurology is part of the Division of Cancer and Neurosciences at Royal Perth Hospital.
The department provides Emergency Department consultations services, inpatient and outpatient general neurology services, and a comprehensive stroke service and stroke prevention clinic.
Royal Perth Hospital is the adult centre for the Western Australian Comprehensive Epilepsy Service. Services include assessment of first seizures and management of epilepsy including complex and medical refractory epilepsy, with pre-surgical evaluation. Diagnostic and pre-surgical video EEG evaluations are performed.
Subspecialty clinics include neurogenetics, peripheral neuropathy, multiple sclerosis, neuro-ophthalmology, and vestibular disorders. Rehabilitation Neurology services are provided at the Shenton Park Campus.
The department has neurophysiological expertise in EMG, EEG, evoked potentials and intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring.
There is a comprehensive Botulinum toxin program for spasmodic dysphonia, dystonia blepharospasm, hemifacial spasm, spasticity and other medically approved indications.
A Tele-health neurology consultation service is provided to regional areas.
Regular educational, peer review and audit meetings are held throughout the year and an extensive range of trials are run with various local and international groups.
The department provides a 24-hour service for urgent assessment of acute neurological problems through the RPH emergency department.
