Fourteen young medical researchers presented their scientific research at the recent Young Investigators Day held in the Bruce Hunt Lecture Theatre, Royal Perth Hospital.

The event, which is held annually, was hosted by the Royal Perth Hospital Medical Research Foundation. It involved 10-minute presentations by each of the researchers – a tight six minutes to explain their work, and another four minutes to answer questions.

At the conclusion, four researchers were selected for special awards. They were:

  • Dr Sun-Kai Chiu - Basic Science Investigator Award
  • Dr Kamran Majeed - Clinical Research Investigator Award
  • Mr Christian Tjiam - Research Encouragement Award: Basic Science
  • Dr Jamie Bellinge - Research Encouragement Award: Clinical

RPH Director of Research Dr David Nolan said the presentations were impressive.

“With such a sort time to present their research, these young investigators were extremely professional in the way they prepared their material, dealt with the pressure and handled the questions and discussion. The quality and breadth of the research that is being conducted is quite inspiring”.
